South Western Railway will introduce a facility from June 24 that will enable passengers buying tickets at passenger reservation service (PRS) counters to cancel them either via IRCTC website http:www.irctc.co.in or the service helpline (139) through SMS or IVRS.
Cancellations are allowed only under normal circumstances and not in the case of late running or cancelled trains. Passengers can avail the facility provided they furnish their mobile numbers at the time of reservation. Confirmed tickets can be cancelled through the helpline or on the website up to four hours before the train’s scheduled departure while RAC waitlisted tickets can be cancelled up to within 30 minutes.
Refunds can be claimed either at the stations where trains commence their journey and within two hours of the opening of satellite PRS counters specified by the zonal railway, for trains scheduled to depart between 6pm and 6am. However, for trains scheduled to leave from 6am to 6pm, refunds can be claimed up to after four hours at PRS counters. Refunds cannot be claimed once the prescribed deadlines expire.
