Shri Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu, Hon’ble Union Minister of Railways, at Tiruchirappalli on 11th March, 2017, Inaugurates 5 Railway Projects/facilities.
Shri Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu, Hon’ble Union Minister of Railways, at Tiruchirappalli on 11th March, 2017, dedicated a new by-Pass Line (2.13 km) connecting Main Line and Chord Line at Ponmalai to the Nation. This vital link saves precious time by avoiding Engine Turn Round at Ponmalai as well as providing frieght trains a bypass at Ponmalai. He also announced the Extension of Train No.22627 / 22628 Tiruchchirappalli – Tirunelveli Intercity Express upto Thiruvananthapuram which has been a long pending demand of the people of Tirunelveli – Thiruvananthapuram stretch for better Rail connectivity between the two states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
Shri Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu, Hon’ble Union Minister of Railways made the dedication and announcement at the Railway Function at Tiruchchirappalli in the presence of Shri Pon Radhakrishnan, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Road Transport & Highways and Shipping, Shri Vellamandi N.Natarajan, Hon’ble Minister for Tourism, Govt of Tamil Nadu, Smt S.Valarmathi, Hon’ble Minister for Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare, Govt of Tamil Nadu and Shri Tiruchi Siva,M.P.
Shri Vashishta Johri, General Manager, Southern Railway welcomed the gathering and Shri A.K.Agarwal, Divisional Railway Manager, Trichy Division proposed the vote of thanks. During his Speech, Shri Trichy Siva M.P., requested for stoppage of the newly extended Trivandrum Intercity Express at Manaparai, and provide a day/night train to Bangalore from Tiruchy.
Smt S.Valarmathi, Hon’ble Minister for Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare, Govt of Tamil Nadu, thanked Railway for the dedication of facilities to the people of Tamil Nadu and said that she looked forward to for such continous gesture.
Shri Vellamandi N.Natarajan congratulated the Modi Govt in winning hearts of people in UP and Jharkhand. He also requested the Railway Minister to look into the representations of the people of Gujarat from Trichy area. He also said that Railway should take up the Madurai – Kanniyakumari Doubling.
During his address, Shri Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu said that the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of transforming India by short term, medium term and long term infrastructural development is followed by Indian Railways. Approximately Rs.8,50,000 crores investment is being planned in the next five years. As the Nation is developes, States also will get benefitted, he said.Considering the importance of developing Tamil Nadu, Rs.2287 crores have been have been alloted for Railway Development in the state in the current budget, against an average of about 870 crores approximately during the last 10 years he said.
He also mentioned that Tamil Nadu got Rs.38 crores rupees for Passenger Amenity works in the present budget. Railway is focussing on infrastructure development like doubling, trebling, electrification, etc to meet future demands of traffic. Various representations on Railway development that has been received covering Karaikkudi, Mayiladuthurai and Ramanathapuram area will be examined, he said and added that the Chennai to Puducherry railway line via Mamalapuram can be re-examined with support of Tamil Nadu Govt in view of the scope for tourism development.
The Hon’ble Railway Minister expressed great happiness in meeting the people of Trichy which helped in understanding the culture and traditions of the area.
The Programme was attended by a large number of Guests, high dignitaries of Trichy area including Shri H.Raja, Chairman of the Railway Passenger Amenities Committee, Members of the Public, Railway Officers, Staff and union representatives.
The Railway Minister, through video conferencing from Tiruchchirappalli, also dedicated the doubling with Electrification of Section (16 km) between Villupuram Junction Railway Station and Tiruvennainallur Road Railway Station to the Nation at Villupuram Junction Railway in the presence of Shri C.Ve.Shanmugam, Hon’ble Minister for Law, Courts and Prisons, Govt of Tamil Nadu, Shri V.Elumalai, MP, and Shri R.Kumaraguru, MLA. This vital stretch at a cost of Rs.105 crores in the Villupuram – Dindigul doubling project improves the rail connectivity of the region.
The Railway Minister through video conferencing from Tiruchchirappalli, also dedicated a New Waiting Hall and VIP Lounge to the Nation at Vriddhachalam Junction Railway Station in the presence of Shri M.C.Sampath, Hon’ble Minister for Industries, Govt of Tamil Nadu, and Shri V.T.Kalaiselvan, M.L.A. This spacious waiting Hall and Lounge built at a cost of Rs.15 lakhs will provide much needed comfort for the passengers boarding the train at Vriddhachalam.
